Programs: Child Passenger Safety >> Technicians
As you know, car crashes are a leading cause of death and hospitalization
for children. Many parents and caregivers do not realize that they
are incorrectly installing their child car seat.
Car seat technicians are community members that receive specialized training
on how to select and properly install child restraints in motor vehicles. Technicians
provide their services in the community at private appointments, car seat
check-up events, and at health fairs. Many car seat technicians work
for law enforcement agencies, nonprofit organizations, or private businesses.
NHTSA car seat technician training
Safe Kids Sonoma County holds the 32-hour National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration (NHTSA) car seat technician training's on a
regular basis. We sponsor recertification courses to attain
CPS technical continuing education (CEUs) recertification. If you
are interested in signing up for a technician training certification,
go to the Safe Kids CPS
Certification site or Events for upcoming
training's.
CPS Network
The CPS network provides
current NHTSA car seat technicians with the latest CPS updates and opportunities
to volunteer, maintain their certification status, and network with other CPS
technicians with a passion for child passenger safety.
